Photographing for Sailing Australia
As a photographer specialising in sailing and yacht racing, documenting events at the Royal Brighton Yacht Club (RBYC), Sandringham Yacht Club (SYC), Royal Melbourne yacht Squadron (RMYS), Royal Yacht Club of Victoria (RYCV), Mornington Yacht Club (MYC) and Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron (BYS) for Sailing Australia.
At RBYC, located on Port Phillip Bay, I captured the essence of the club’s vibrant sailing community. The club is known for its competitive racing and active social scene. Photographing their regattas involved early mornings and late afternoons to catch the best light, focusing on the precision and teamwork of the crews.
SYC, another prominent club on the bay, offered a different set of challenges and opportunities. The club is renowned for its well-organised events and robust member participation. My work here involved not only photographing the races but also documenting the preparation and maintenance of the yachts, highlighting the dedication required in this sport.
Throughout these assignments, my goal was to showcase the beauty and intensity of yacht racing. Each club had its unique culture and approach, but all shared a deep passion for sailing. The images produced were used for promotional materials, member communications, and event coverage, providing a comprehensive view of Victoria’s sailing scene.
